No Ferrari Road car is more closely associated with Enzo Ferrari than the F40 - the final project under the direction of Il Commendatore before his death in 1988. Built to commemorate the Italian carmaker's 40th anniversary, the F40 was, at its introduction in 1987, Ferrari's most powerful production car to date. Its 2936cc twin-turbocharged V8, nestled beneath the sloping buttresses of the Berlinetta coupe's roofline, produced 478bhp and 426 lb-ft (577 Nm) of torque, delivering "supercar" levels of performance: 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds and, more significantly, a top speed of 201mph (324km/h). No production car before the F40 had ever pushed beyond that barrier.
Though the factory initially had announced that only 400 examples of the F40 would be produced, the car's popularity affected the production run from 1987-1992, resulting in 1,311 F40s which were all left-hand drive and painted in Rossa Corsa.
Ordered by Maranello concessionaires 03/08/1987 and completed at Ferrari Works in 1991, this exceptional F40 was one of only a handful designated for the UK market. Delivered to its first owner in February of that year it has remained in the UK throughout its life. This F40 was specified with catalytic converters, the desirable and sensible adjustable suspension system and as with all of the UK cars, it is also fitted with a MPH speedometer. The bag tanks have been replaced to alloy fuel cells to avoid the need for replacement in future, a Tubi sports exhaust silencer has also been fitted and sounds superb, not too loud but certainly not quiet.
The present owner acquired the car from Foskers just under 7 years ago and it has formed part of his personal collection of Ferrari ever since. The original service book displays the supplier as Maranello Concessionaires and the pages include multiple service stamps from Ferrari main agents and reputable Ferrari specialist dealers including Foskers. Also accompanying the car is a very comprehensive history file of works carried out. Throughout its life there is evidence of regular services and timing belt replacements completed at 1,000, 4,734, 5,025, 6,361, 6,441, 9,267, 13,012, 14,594, 16,156, 17,814, 19,246, 23,056, 23,469, 24,074, 25,104 and 25,927 miles. These records corroborate the 26,800 miles on the odometer, and a fresh service including timing belt renewal will be carried out at our workshops prior to the sale.
It is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition, the weave from the carbon fibre is evident and the paint work looks correct. The interior is in exemplary condition throughout, and the seats are as new and without any wear having been retrimmed by Luppi in Italy very recently.
Supplied complete with both sets of keys, its original tool kit, tyre inflator, Schedoni leather owners’ pouch with correct handbooks this F40 presents correctly and is ready to be enjoyed by a new custodian, no serious collection of the marque can be complete without an F40.
