After a hugely successful 20 year partnership with Pininfarina, Ferrari turned to Bertone to design its first production mid-engined V8, the Dino 308 GT4. Although the newcomer's wedge-shaped styling was initially controversial, the performance of its quad-cam 2,927cc DOHC, 16 valve, aluminium alloy V8 engine with four Weber carburettors, coupled to a five speed manual transaxle, did not disappoint.
The car we present here is an original right-hand-drive UK supplied example, which was subject to Classiche evaluation by Ferrari in 2009 and has been certified ever since. Since purchasing the car in 1985, the second owner had ensured that Graypaul Ferrari of Nottingham cared for the car continuously, earning and ensuring its ongoing Classiche status. Further to this yearly maintenance, Graypaul also bestowed on the car a full engine and gearbox rebuild, with clutch replacement, within the last 5 years.
Finished in the perfect combination of Rosso Chiaro 599.5.190 Salchi with Pelle Sabbia VM 3234 and Alcantara inserts, this example presents with such beautiful originality. The car currently resides on brand new 16" Superformance original 5-spoke design alloys in gold, with the original 4 x 14" wheels remain with the car. It is also complete with a wonderful box full of history including two large folders, Classiche folder, books and the original tools also accompany the car.
The 308 GT4 is practical, it has a reasonable sized boot and the rear seats provide additional space. The Iconic shape has aged gracefully and the renewed interest in the 308 GT4 has been reflected in the way prices have begun to appreciate in recent years.
This easily qualifies as one of, if not the best, GT4 available today. Its provenance, history and mileage are without question - a truly exceptional and reassuring honour amongst classic cars.
